This year's Miss Newa beauty pageant is being held on Feb 19th (Falgun 7). The contestants feel that they have got a new platform to explore the Newar culture.
Hema Manandhar, president of Nepalese Fashion Home, informed Sanchar Nepal that the contestants are currently undergoing training in Newar language and culture. The organizer is currently conducting training on language, culture and beauty pageant on a daily basis with the choreographer Rozen Shrestha and Miss Newa 2011 Sunita Dangol. The organizer a little ago also organized a Ranjana Lipi workshop led by Sunita Dangol, who is also leading various programs related to the Nepalbhasa language and Ranjana script. Meanwhile, the contestants worshiped at the Mahankal and Sankata temples in Kathmandu, wishing for world peace.
There are 15 contestants competing in this year's Miss Newa Nepal 1141. The organizer Nepalese Fashion Home has been organizing the beauty pageant for the last 15 years with the objective of keeping the art, culture, and language of the Newar community alive. It also organizes Miss Little Newa every year.
